Dont forget... they also banned the import of Ivermectin as unsafe or 'unproven' for humans but it is specified on their permitted drugs schedule for the past 4 years (page 61)....
Most inconsistent form in Africa....that's our leaders.
When about 150 or so of our people were holed up in Wuhan, it was with great enthusiasm that our leaders took the decision to bring them back at some cost too.
At that point it was all about saving lives......all the talk in the early days was about saving lives. No health regulatory body was wagging any tails.
Fast forward to almost a year later and a second wave that spreads faster than the first and which put health care workers under tremendous strain, the health regulatory body suddenly bans a drug out of the blue, Ivermectin.
Money talks, the Health body received a grant from the great philanthrophers BGMG.

Re: Fears and thoughts as we move to level ONE
4 years 4 months ago - 4 years 4 months agoQuite straightforward IMO..monty wrote: Please help me to understand the logic in this... Or am I expecting too much from our government. Private schools open 1st Feb but public schools open only 15thFeb. Maybe the reason is most of the politicians kids go to pvt schools as I am 100% sure my daughters school is just as safe if not safer than the pvt schools.
From what I have seen and experienced, Private schools are ready to open. They have infrastructure and protocols/ management in place to provide service effectively.
If you tick the boxes why should you not go ahead.
On the other hand most gvt schools outside of what were/are previously disadvantaged areas are not and were never ready. The unions have pushed this agenda.
I’m not debating the right or wrong. But if you paying 10k a month for your child’s education and all safety measures in place and you tick the boxes for criteria.. why should you be be disadvantaged by the government inadequacies to provide better/narrow the gap in evacuation inequalities. They found 500billion for Covid. Where was just 50 billion to sort out one of the most enshrined principles in their manifesto. Equal education for ALL?
This shown over the last 20 plus years where very little to nothing was done to effectively narrow the gap between providing a reasonable service in education. coupled with even more inadequacy shown over the last 6 - 8 weeks over the holiday break when schools could be “made “ ready while kids were not there.
They sat on their arses and hoped it would all be different come the new academic year. Gvt teachers being paid irrespective of whether they work or not or are at school. So they pay they union fees... unions happy, and teachers don’t have to work. Why would you want to go back...

And apologies if this irks anyone. But we live in a capitalist country that wants to pretend sometimes or when it suits that we shouldn’t or don’t. This is the model by which most of the world lives.. fairly or not.
I know this is a really crappy analygy especially given the inequalities of the past and present, but... It is akin to saying under load shedding that if you can afford a generator to keep your power on you shouldn’t take advantage of your economic advantage that is unfair because we all suffering. That you can’t empower yourself economically by making your private situation better while others may not or cannot enjoy the same privilege..

Good morning all
It appears not much has changed since last week apart from the weather.
It was a rather windy, hectic evening but should not last for long.
Vaccine? Has anyone had the jab yet.
Can we buy a legal drink yet?
We have the Met to look forward to and a must to have a pick 6 banker, thread running.
Next it will be Cheltenham but sadly times are not the same 😢
Good Punting and keep safe 😷

come the 15th of February this regime will have a hard time keeping us under the current lockdown.
Numbers are falling( i am surprised, i expected Gauteng to explode with new cases by now}
Active cases is down from 220k to less than 140k .
i am sure as communists they will be tempted to keep the state of disaster for the remainder of 2021 and possible some form of curfew to reduce alcohol related emergencies.
Schools will open and close as and when the virus surges and abates.
The vaccine probably wont crack up to be the silver bullet poor countries are hoping for.
regardless of COVID, the south african economy and by extension the entire SADC region has being destroyed. the road back for the middle class and marginal citizens in SA is going to be long an painful.
there are no meaningful Govt. programs to assist SMME' to get back up and running.
There is no attempt to save the middle class by government.(tax breaks, interest free loans, Reskill/upskill programs)
with all this unemployment will come Crime, get rich quick schemes and Suicides.
If I were this regime i would be looking to china to implement massive foreign debt write offs. And big infrastructure projects with no strings attached.
at worse they should pay for the Vaccine rollout.

After listening to the news again 😢😷
It would appear many have ideas to help the economy but Cyril does not want to listen as it would appear he is the only person with no conclusions or end plays?
When he eventually he does "kick in" with some form on common sense, he will probably be praised but the damage has already been done.
What a shocking situation we find ourselves in.

SAMRC excess deaths report for week ended 16th January very somber reading. SA has now suffered 112k excess deaths since May 2020. The week total is 15K excess deaths, the worst number ever. Official COVID deaths continue to be hopelessly under reported in all provinces except WC. Actual are 3- 4x reported. The data shows that EC, KZN and GT the worst hit.
The life insurance industry is seeing death claims of 2x the normal rate at present which confirms the SAMRC data.
The silver lining is that WC and EC seem to have passed the peak of deaths for the second wave, which means that new infections there must have peaked a couple of weeks ago. WC will probably have a strong case for a more relaxed level of lockdown next month.
The festive season travel was a disaster that should not have been allowed.
UK and USA have already vaccinated more than 5% of their population, and are likely to get to 1/3 by Easter. We haven’t started, and the most optimistic view is that 3% (mostly health workers) will be done by June.
Affluent SA people will most likely take a flight to Dubai in a few months time to get a vaccine privately.

As suspected Peter the figures have always been worse than reported..
Over here in the UK i personally don`t know anyone that`s even had covid never mind died.
Yet through social media contacts and being involved with ABC i think it`s about 8 of my contacts that have died in South Africa.
I`m also seeing a lot of facebook friends (South African)breaking the news of the death of loved ones... There also seems to be quite a lot coming from the Indian community?

@Bob...hearing daily of deaths of people related to or friends of family, colleagues and friends...and currently have a few people that I'm close to that are recovering...
"Indian community" prevalence possibly due to pre-existing conditions like diabetes and cholesterol...also density of people in some areas...high infections in a place called Flamingo Heights in Tongaat...lots of people living in flats in that area...

Ok but what happened to the fears that it will spread like wildfire through the informal settlements...….like the Khayaletshas Orange Farm, Alex,
Bottlebrush etc?
Not happened.
p.s. These citizens the majority
cannot be on Medical Aids and therefore can't get access to private hospitals I suppose.
