2 years 8 months agodon't think anybody says they are doing a good jobSo do you think the ANC are doing a good job ?
Last paragraph of article
There is no doubt that our government is underperforming, and our leaders need to be held to account. Digging deep, naming names, speaking openly and honestly are part of the fabric of our society, and actually things our media do very well. What we do not need are the mindless meanderings of a patronising, unthoughtful paper tiger, who after decades away from South Africa reappears as our greatest patriot astonishingly full of advice, but off a very narrow base
ANC voetsek - what does that even mean?
To me , it's exactly as the article says.

What I will say is the power crisis alone is giving SA no chance of creating more jobs or attracting investors or tourism .
Plus when I hear the words "your honorable" said again at these Parliament sessions it makes me feel sick 😫

Hersov is a big fan of HFO (not the fuel that keep the lights on) and he is celebrating and honouring Patrice, conditionally, if he distances himself from the ANC. Patrice has a history of "donating" and paying top dollar to sit next to Zuma, Rama or any other SA Pres to keep the deal flow from Govt. support continue to favour him. I somehow don't think Patrice is going to heed Hersov's call.
Hersov should rather call out other businessmen that funded CR17 campaign to get Rama to step down. Hersov should be "engaging" Brian Joffe, Steven Koseff and Johnny Copeland to convince them to take the baton from Harry Frederick Oppenheimer and denounce the ANC..... and distance themselves publicly from Rama and the ANC.
If Hersov is a man of his word, he should be leading the charge to hold Rama accountable on the "14 charges" he cited in his speech. He will make a lot more friends that those that he lost over the past 12 months.

@flydubai...most of what you write is true about advantage but what about those that didn't have the said advantages and have still made good?
My paternal grandfather came to South Africa in 1909 as an 8 year old...one of the last indenture ships out of India...2 generations later, my siblings and I are all professionals and my parents' two grandchildren go to private schools...so, we had no legacy but are creating one through sacrifice, hard work, education, wanting to see the generations that follow do better than we ever could...
The private school that my daughter goes to would be boycotted by the EFF and other African nationalists in our midst if they saw the demographics at the awards day...not for want of resources so I don't know the reasons for the lack of representivity in those that excel...
It's easier to make excuses but that only serves to hinder putting in the hard yards and sacrifice required...wherever you are, that's the starting point for the rest of your life...if you choose to allow your past to keep you at that starting point, all you will ever have is excuses for lack of personal progress...
Just get things done competently and there will be no complaints from anyone...doesn't matter who the captain of a ship is, so long as it stays aflaot...and we, as a country, are sinking so we look at the (in)competence of the captain and his crew...they, along with the guilt ridden liberals, will offer a plethora of excuses as to the sinking whilst others will see a ship that was once afloat but now leaking water and going down...nothing too difficult about it...
So, you can choose to have low acceptable standards or be realistic that we cannot be fixing sinkholes that are appearing with the same people that cannot repair potholes...you need experienced engineers and that is what is lacking...any process, system, plan, control, etc is only as good as the people therein and it would serve you well to at least acknowledge that the people element, in most areas of importance, is sadly lacking...
